Why Is Trusting Yourself Paramount?
"Complete trust in yourself and your intuition is the greatest gift you can give yourself." - Elisha May
Because when you trust yourself, you stop outsourcing your truth. You stop performing for others. You stop living by other people’s scripts. And you start living from the deepest part of you, the part that’s always known the way.
Trusting yourself is the most liberating thing you’ll ever do.
It’s how you break free.
It’s how you come home.
I didn’t always trust myself. In fact, it took me over a decade to find my way back.
As a child and teen, I was deeply intuitive. I could feel people’s energy, sense truth beyond words. But like so many sensitives, that knowing got buried beneath fear, trauma, and the pressure to conform.
The unraveling began in New York, 2010.
At 24, I took what I believed was a soul-led opportunity, an Au Pair role in the U.S. It was meant to be exciting, expansive, aligned. But within months, I was being gaslit and emotionally abused by my employer. I kept trying to survive it, telling myself: “You’ve got this. Just hold on.”
But it broke me, the human part of me.
I returned home shaken. I couldn’t go out alone. I was anxious, frozen, dysregulated. PTSD, though I didn’t have the language for it yet.
Then, 8 months later I experienced my first psychosis with my Mum and then 6 months later, in 2012, my brother died by suicide.
And that was the tsunami.
I spiralled. Grief. Depression. Self-rejection. My nervous system was wrecked. I questioned everything, including my own soul.
Why would I be guided into that situation?
Why would my intuition lead me into pain?
So I stopped trusting myself.
And for years, I stayed stuck.
Stuck in a relationship that drained me. Stuck in a career that didn’t fulfill me. Stuck in a loop of people-pleasing, self-abandonment, and second-guessing my knowing.
But even in the dark, the spark didn’t die.
Clients would tell me I made them feel better, even when I was barely holding it together myself. As a beauty therapist, I found myself giving accidental healing and coaching sessions during facials etc.,. I wasn’t just soothing skin. I was recalibrating souls. And eventually, I began to realise…
Maybe everything I went through wasn’t punishment.
Maybe it was preparation.
The turning point came when I stopped chasing someone else’s version of success and started listening again, to me. I got the nudge to take a parcel delivery job. I didn’t want to, it didn’t make sense. But my gut said yes.
That yes led to:
Financial stability
Mental clarity
Emotional resilience
The confidence to travel solo again, including 3 months in Greece
And unbeknown to me at the time, my Twin Flame (*updated July 2025)
It also led me to my manager, a fellow empath who was stuck in her own path. She needed my reflection. She needed me.
And suddenly I could see…
My intuition never left me. I just stopped listening.
So many people are walking around trusting everyone else: parents, peers, society, gurus, but not themselves.
And when you do that, you suffer. Because you abandon the one voice that actually knows the way.
Your own.
The truth is, we’re never meant to follow logic alone.
We’re meant to follow energy.
And when you do?
Life starts to click. Opportunities open. The right people show up. The right actions unfold. Not from force. From flow.
Because your soul already knows. It always did.
So start small.
Feel into what’s true for you today.
Take one intuitive action.
Honour one nudge, even if it doesn’t make sense.
You don’t need anyone else to tell you what your life should look like.
You don’t need to prove or justify or explain.
You just need to listen.
Trust yourself.
Because you and your soul actually want the same thing.
Much love,
Elisha 💖
